Wyoming Transfer Gavin Meyer Bolsters USC’s Defensive Tackle Room, Filling Necessary Depth for Game Days and Competitive Practices

2 min read

Wyoming transfer Gavin Meyer has recently joined the USC Trojans, strengthening their defensive tackle depth. The 6-foot-4, 285-pound redshirt senior chose USC over schools such as Cal, Wisconsin, and Illinois. Meyer began his career at Wyoming with limited playing time but gained a significant role on the defensive line in his last two seasons with the Cowboys.

The Trojans entered spring camp in need of defensive linemen and discussed their need for depth. Defensive ends coach Shaun Nua highlighted Anthony Lucas as a potential candidate to play on the outside and help on the defensive tackle position when required. However, setbacks occurred with the transfer of projected starting nose guard Isaiah Raikes and redshirt freshman Deijon Laffitte 13 days later.

With the departure of Raikes and Laffitte, USC will rely on Meyer, along with incoming freshman Carlon Jones, to bolster their defensive line room. Head coach Lincoln Riley, defensive coordinator D’Anton Lynn, and defensive line coach Eric Henderson are actively seeking more defensive options leading up to fall camp. This depth is critical not only for game days but also for maintaining competitive practices throughout the season.
