The New York Jets have announced that they will retain head coach Robert Saleh and General Manager Joe Douglas for the upcoming 2024 season. However, there have been some changes made to their sports performance and sports science staff.
Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports that Brad DeWeese, who was the director of high performance, has left the organization, as well as assistant director of high performance Robert Sausaman and director of sports science Matt Sams. DeWeese and Sausaman were both hired after Saleh became the coach in 2021.
Despite these departures, the team’s website now lists Alexander Carnall as the sports science coordinator. There have been no new additions on the performance side of the staff yet. According to Cimini, these departures were not performance-based but rather due to issues with injuries on the offensive line in recent seasons. To address this problem, the team signed veteran tackles Tyron Smith and Morgan Moses to help bolster the line’s performance. Keeping these players healthy and on the field will be crucial for the team’s success in 2024 season.
