The West Virginia University tennis team is set to compete against Pacific in the quarterfinal round of the 2024 UTR Sports NIT Championship at 4:30 p.m. on Monday, May 6, at the IMG Academy Tennis Courts in Bradenton, Florida. This will be the first meeting between West Virginia and Pacific.
The winner of this match will advance to face the winner of the Tulsa/Wyoming match in the semifinals on Tuesday, May 7. After falling to Baylor in the first round of the Big 12 Tennis Championship on April 17, this will be West Virginia’s first match of the season.
Throughout the season, West Virginia has been led in singles play by senior Momoko Nagato, redshirt sophomore Maja Dodik, and junior Tatiana Lipatova. In doubles play, the pairings of Nagato and junior Michaela Kucharova, as well as graduate student Ting-Pei Chang and Lipatova, have been successful.
This marks West Virginia’s first postseason tournament appearance in program history. The Mountaineers wrapped up a successful regular season with 14 wins, marking their first winning season since 2010. They also had their most Big 12 wins in a single season since joining the conference in 2013.
