Roman Gabriel, a former NFL quarterback, passed away on Saturday morning at the age of 83. His son, Roman Gabriel III, announced the news on social media, expressing his sadness while requesting prayers and privacy for the family during this difficult time.

Gabriel began his football career at North Carolina State from 1959-1961 before being selected as the No. 1 overall pick in the AFL and the No. 2 overall pick in the NFL draft in 1962. He opted to sign with the NFL’s Rams over the AFL’s Raiders and had a successful career with them. Gabriel was named a Pro Bowler from 1967-1969 and was honored with All-Pro and league MVP awards in 1969.

Despite his achievements, Gabriel never won a playoff game, going 0-2 in the postseason. After spending 11 seasons with the Rams, he finished his career with the Eagles. In 1973, Gabriel earned Pro Bowl honors after leading the league in numerous passing categories, showcasing his skills as a quarterback.

Gabriel concluded his career with impressive stats, including 29,444 passing yards, 201 touchdowns
