Peter Cat Recording Co. has announced the release of their new album, “Beta,” on August 9th through Muddy Water. The band will be dropping their first single on May 16th, with a headlining tour beginning in August. Following some initial dates with Khruangbin, Peter Cat will be touring the U.S., U.K., and Europe before heading back to India for a series of shows.

Tickets for the headlining tour dates will go on sale on May 16th at 10 a.m. local time. The band teased their upcoming album on Instagram with a video featuring elephants eating an edible arrangement with the album’s title spelled out in watermelon slices. Describing the album as a collection of stories about the future told from 50 years ago to make sense of the present, Peter Cat Recording Co. expressed their excitement for the release, which follows their previous album, “Bismillah,” from 2019.

The album was chosen as the title by drummer Karan Singh’s six-month-old son out of five options. Produced by Suryakant Sawhney, Kartik Pillai, and Dhruv Bhola, “Beta” promises a mix of indie, bossa nova, jazz, psychedelic and more genres influenced by crooner music. Sawhney discussed the emotional and masculine aspects of crooner music and how it influenced him as a younger artist in detail during a recent interview with Rolling Stone Magazine.
