To enhance the success of their weekend plan, the Curiosity rover team decided to adjust their sol 1991-1992 plan by prioritizing touch and go contact science over a longer-distance drive. This strategic decision was made to ensure that they gathered detailed documentation of the variations in chemistry and rock texture along the Vera Rubin Ridge.
The sol 1991-1992 plan commenced with APXS observations of Seaforth Head, followed by MAHLI images of the same target. ChemCam and Mastcam were also engaged in analyzing Seaforth Head, as well as another target named Canisp. Once these observations were completed, Curiosity embarked on a 15-meter drive and gathered post-drive images.
By focusing on contact science activities in this plan, the team aimed to deepen their understanding of the geological features and compositions present in this area of the Vera Rubin Ridge. This thorough data collection will contribute valuable insights to the ongoing exploration and research efforts of the Curiosity rover.
