Andrew Mangiapane has been selected to represent Team Canada at the upcoming IIHF World Hockey Championship. He will be joined by Martin Pospisil from Slovakia as the only two representatives from the Calgary Flames. Flames Director of Media Relations and Communications, Sean Kelso, will also be in attendance, hoping to secure another gold medal as the team’s media relations specialist.
Mangiapane was named the MVP of the tournament in 2021 after helping Canada secure a victory over Finland to claim the championship. Despite missing the first three games due to COVID protocols, he finished the event with 11 points (7 goals, 4 assists) and tied for the tournament lead in goals. His performance on the ice was instrumental in Canada’s 6-0-1 record with him in the lineup, including a thrilling overtime win in the gold-medal game.
Team Canada will kick off their tournament on May 11 against Great Britain at 4:20am MT, while Pospisil’s Slovakia team will face Germany a day earlier at 8:20am MT. The competition will run until May 26, with the final games taking place in Prague, Czechia where the gold, silver, and bronze medals will be awarded.
