In July, two young fishermen from Bellville, Sloan McGhee and Anthony Oscar, will compete in a national tournament on Lake Hartwell in Anderson County, South Carolina. They qualified for this opportunity after competing with youth anglers from all around Ohio at the Ohio Bass Federation Jr. State Championship on May 11 at Alum Creek Lake in Columbus.
Despite facing adverse weather conditions, McGhee and Oscar of the Kokosing Valley Junior Anglers team landed the second largest five-fish bag of the tournament, weighing in at 9.30 pounds. Their dedication to preparation before the event was evident in their performance on tournament day.
Jeremy Reese, Ohio Bass Federation Youth Director, highlighted that McGhee and Oscar have the traits necessary to be successful tournament anglers. He expects to see these young anglers at the top of the leaderboard in future fishing events.
As they head to South Carolina with the goal of bringing the TBF Junior World Championship title back to Richland County, McGhee and Oscar will represent their community and continue to pursue their passion for fishing.
