With his win at the PGA Championship, Xander Schauffele has solidified his position as a major champion and is now officially ranked as the second-best player in the world. At 30 years old, Schauffele has had a successful career with numerous appearances in the top five of the OWGR, but this latest ranking represents his highest position yet. While Schauffele rose to second place, Bryson DeChambeau also made significant progress by jumping back into the top 40.
Following the PGA Championship, the top 60 players in the world rankings have earned spots in the next major event, the U.S. Open from June 13-16. Two players who moved inside the top 60 this week are Thomas Detry (54 from 71) and Justin Rose (56 from 68). Players still have the opportunity to qualify for the U.S. Open by climbing into the top 60 following the Memorial Tournament, which concludes on June 9.
Masters champion Scottie Scheffler maintains his position as the top-ranked player with a lead of more than six average points. While Rory McIlroy was previously ranked as number two after losing ground at Augusta National Golf Club, he has been surpassed by Schauffele with this victory and is now in third place.
The PGA Championship was a significant milestone for both Schauffele and DeChambeau’s careers, with DeChambeau moving up to No. 35 in the rankings after finishing runner-up at Valhalla Golf Club and Schauffele moving up to No. 2 after winning at Southern Hills Country Club in St Louis Missouri
