West Virginia University’s (WVU) football players dominated the preseason recognition from Athlon Sports in the Big 12 conference. WVU LT Wyatt Milum proudly carried the West Virginia state flag during their homecoming game against Oklahoma State in Morgantown, WVU. In total, nearly a dozen WVU football players received recognition on Athlon Sports’ preseason All-Big 12 teams. These players include five from the Mountaineer offense, five from the defense, and one specialist.
Leading the way as WVU’s All-Big 12 First Team representatives are Wyatt Milum and Aubrey Burks. Milum also received preseason All-American recognition from the publication, securing a spot on the Second Team offensive line. Last season, Milum did not allow a single sack, while Burks recorded 48 total tackles, four sacks, and multiple other defensive stats.
Defensive lineman Sean Martin was placed on Athlon Sports’ Second Team defense, with Tomas Rimac and Kole Taylor selected for the Second Team offense. Jahiem White represents WVU on the Third Team offense, while CJ Donaldson is among West Virginia’s five Fourth Team representatives. Last season, the duo combined for 1,640 yards and 15 rushing touchdowns.
Notably, WVU’s quarterback Garrett Greene was left off Athlon Sports’ All-Big 12 preseason teams list. Newcomers Garnett Hollis Jr., Trey Lathan, Edward Vesterinien, and Michael Hayes II were all placed on the Fourth Team. The regular season will kick off with WVU facing Penn State at home on Saturday, August 31st at noon ET.
Overall, it looks like WVU has a strong team with many talented players that have been recognized by Athlon Sports in their preseason rankings of the Big 12 conference.
