Wheelchair tennis player Alfie Hewett from Britain has been known for his impressive success in the sport. With eight Grand Slam wheelchair singles titles under his belt, he has been a force to be reckoned with on the court. However, even with his impressive track record, Hewett’s hopes for a fourth French Open men’s wheelchair singles title were dashed in the semi-finals by Gustavo Fernandez of Argentina.
Despite the disappointment, Hewett is not one to give up easily. Instead of focusing on the men’s singles competition, he is now looking forward to participating in the wheelchair men’s doubles competition at Roland Garros alongside fellow Briton Gordon Reid. The two have already reached the semi-finals and are determined to secure their fifth consecutive title at this prestigious event since 2020. Their opponents in the upcoming round will be Fernandez and Frenchman Stephane Houdet, who will also be vying for victory.
On the women’s side of things, Lucy Shuker and Angelica Bernal faced tough luck when they were eliminated in the women’s wheelchair doubles quarter-finals at Roland Garros. The pair lost out against top seeds Yui Kamiji of Japan and Kgothatso Montjane of South Africa with a score of 6-3 7-5. Despite this setback, Shuker and Bernal have shown resilience and have expressed their determination to continue striving for success in future tournaments.
