The Golden State Warriors have guaranteed Kevon Looney’s $8 million contract for the upcoming season. Looney, who has been with the team since being drafted in 2015, has played a key role in their winning two championships during that time.
Initially, it was expected that Looney would enter unrestricted free agency this summer as only the first $3 million of his contract was guaranteed. However, the Warriors have chosen to keep him on their roster by guaranteeing the full $8 million. While there is still a possibility that he could be included in a trade package depending on how the team’s roster changes during free agency, Looney is currently contracted to play for the Warriors next season.
Last season, Looney appeared in 74 regular season games for the Warriors and averaged 4.5 points, 5.7 rebounds and 1.8 assists per game while shooting an impressive 59.7% from the field. Despite having his contract guaranteed for next season, Looney will become an unrestricted free agent in the summer of 2022 and his future with the team beyond that remains uncertain.
