The First District Health Unit in Minot is hosting an open house on Monday to showcase its comprehensive range of programs and services to the community and surrounding areas. Executive Director Holly Brekhus emphasized the importance of educating the public about all that the health unit offers, not just COVID-related services. National Public Health Week began on April 1, with events taking place nationwide to highlight the crucial work done by public health officials.
First District Health Unit provides 14 programs, including emergency preparedness and response, school health, family planning, sexually transmitted diseases, general nursing, and injury prevention. The Environmental Health Division is also housed at the health unit, offering training and guidance on topics such as food safety, rabies, and hazardous waste. The division conducts inspections and enforcement at food establishments, parks, campgrounds, and swimming pools.
In addition to their own services, First District Health Unit collaborates with job services, community medical services, and other organizations to ensure that community members have access to all the programs and services they need. By referring individuals to other partners, they aim to provide comprehensive support to the community.
