The 2024 Olympics in Paris are just around the corner, and Team GB is preparing to showcase its talent and skill in the sport of boxing. A strong squad of six boxers has been named to represent Great Britain, each bringing unique strengths and experiences to the team.
The team includes super-heavyweight Delicious Orie, heavyweight Pat Brown, light-middleweight Lewis Richardson, middleweight Chantelle Reid, welterweight Rosie Eccles, and bantamweight Charley Davison. Orie, one of the favourites in the group, has shown exceptional performance, winning gold at the Commonwealth Games in 2022. Eccles also qualified at the 2023 European Games last June, further solidifying her reputation as a top contender.
Lewis Richardson secured his place on the team after qualifying last week in Thailand. He demonstrated his determination and skill in the ring despite missing out on Tokyo 2020 due to COVID-19. Davison has moved up to bantamweight for the Paris Olympics and aims to build on her previous experience of reaching the quarter-final stage in Tokyo three years ago.
Team GB chef de mission Mark England expressed confidence in the selected boxers, highlighting their talent, character and personality within the team. Despite challenges from the pandemic that forced him to miss out on Tokyo 2020, Davison persevered and earned her place on this prestigious squad for Paris.
With big expectations following the success of the Tokyo team which brought home six medals including two golds; this GB boxing squad is eager to continue upholding GB’s legacy on an international stage by showcasing their talent at Paris 2024.
