The ongoing T20 World Cup in Florida has been disrupted by heavy rainfall, causing flash floods and stranding cars. Despite the challenges posed by tropical storms and flooding, organizers are unlikely to move the games from Florida.
The recent leg of the tournament in New York concluded on Wednesday with India’s win over the USA. The matches will now move to Lauderhill’s Central Broward Park where three fixtures in Group A remain. Co-hosts USA, Ireland, Canada, and Pakistan are all vying for a spot in the Super 8s alongside India.
Warnings of “excessive rainfall” have been issued for Friday morning, when the USA is scheduled to face Ireland. Groundstaff at Central Broward Park are working to dry the field after removing the covers, but it is unlikely that teams will be able to train outdoors before the match. The stadium’s good drainage facilities provide hope that the games can go ahead if the weather cooperates.
Sri Lanka’s match against Nepal was abandoned without a ball being bowled on June 11th, the only other game scheduled to take place at Lauderhill. In light of this, it is highly improbable that the International Cricket Council would move the remaining fixtures to another venue at such short notice. The outcome of the games will determine which teams advance to the Super 8s, with the USA currently favored to qualify in second place.
