On Thursday, a bus carrying devotees from Botswana to an Easter conference in Limpopo, South Africa, lost control and plummeted off a bridge, causing the deaths of 45 people. According to reports from BBC News, the vehicle collided with the bridge’s barriers and exploded upon impact. The only survivor was an eight-year-old girl.
South African authorities are currently conducting search and rescue operations to retrieve the bodies of the victims and locate any remaining survivors. Emergency services are facing difficulties responding to the crash site due to its remote location. Transport Minister Sindisiwe Chikunga visited the scene of the accident to offer condolences to the families of those killed and emphasize responsible driving during busy holiday periods.
Chikunga announced that the South African government would support the repatriation of the victims’ bodies and launch a thorough investigation into what caused this tragic event. As efforts continue to cope with this devastating bus crash, attention is being directed towards supporting affected families and implementing measures necessary for preventing such incidents in future years.
