The 2024 Abu Dhabi World Judo Championships have been filled with excitement and tension as the mixed team competition took place on the 6th day. A thrilling 6 vs 6 showdown featuring three men and three women from each team was held, with the winners securing a spot in the gold medal match. In the semi-final, Japan faced tough competition from Uzbekistan but emerged victorious with a narrow 4 – 1 win.
Another closely fought semi-final match saw France and Georgia go head to head, with France ultimately emerging triumphant and advancing to face Japan in the final. These two teams have a history of facing off in the final, with Japan emerging victorious each time.
The final saw Japan take an early lead, with impressive performances from their judokas dominating the match. Despite a strong effort from France, Japan secured victory with a win from KAWABATA, sealing the deal. The President of the IJF Mr. Marius VIZER and CEO of Icona Capital Mr. Max-Hervé GEORGE awarded the gold medals, while the President of the UAE Judo Federation Mohammed Bin Thaaloob ALDEREI presented the gold trophy.
TAMAOKI, a member of the winning Japanese team, expressed his amazement at securing their seventh consecutive win. A flag passing ceremony was held at the end of the day to signify the transfer of the World Championships to Hungary for 2025.
