The Outlaw Music Festival Tour was met with disappointment by fans who had purchased tickets to see Willie Nelson perform. Just hours before the first night of the tour in Alpharetta, Georgia on Friday, June 21, it was announced that Nelson would not be able to perform due to ill health. At 91 years old, he had been advised by his doctors to rest for the next four days. Although it was stated that he was expected to make a quick recovery and rejoin the tour the following week, the specific date of his comeback was not disclosed.
In Nelson’s absence, his son Lukas Nelson and the Family Band took the stage at the tour’s kickoff show. Bob Dylan, Robert Plant & Alison Krauss, and Celisse also performed their scheduled sets as planned. Despite this news, fans remained hopeful that Nelson would return to the stage soon.
Unfortunately, Nelson was also unable to attend Saturday’s tour stop in Charlotte, North Carolina and will not be present at Sunday’s show in Raleigh. There is still uncertainty about whether he will return to the stage when the tour resumes on Wednesday in Virginia Beach, Virginia.
Upcoming Outlaw Music Festival Tour stops include performances in Syracuse and Wantagh, New York as well as Holmdel, New Jersey. Despite his absence from the tour, Nelson remains a prolific songwriter and advocate for various causes. His legacy continues to inspire music lovers around the world.
