Willie Mays, the legendary “Say Hey Kid,” passed away at the age of 93. Known for his incredible talent, drive, and exuberance, he was one of baseball’s greatest and most beloved players. His family and the San Francisco Giants announced his passing, stating that he passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones.
Mays was not just an incredible athlete but also a Hall of Famer. He was known for his signature basket catch and his swift dashes around the bases with his cap flying off. One of his most celebrated defensive feats is the iconic over-the-shoulder catch in the 1954 World Series. During his illustrious career, spanning 22 seasons, mostly with the New York/San Francisco Giants, Mays hit .302, hit 660 home runs, amassed 3,283 hits, scored over 2,000 runs, and won 12 Gold Gloves. He was named Rookie of the Year in 1951 and won two MVP awards while finishing in the top ten for MVP awards ten other times.
