The Dark Side of Mannheim’s Market Square: A Terrifying Stabbing Attack on an Anti-Islam Rally Leaves Three Injured and Raises Concerns about Extremist Sentiments in Germany

On Friday, a man armed with a knife injured three people in a market in Mannheim, Germany. The attack occurred around 11:35 Spanish time in Mannheim’s Market Square during an anti-Islam rally by activist Michael Johannes Stürzenberger.

The assailant, who remains unidentified, stabbed Stürzenberger in the leg and face and also attacked a police officer at least twice, including once in the neck. Both Stürzenberger and the officer are undergoing emergency surgery, with the latter’s condition reported as more serious.

Stürzenberger is known for his activism against Islam which has led to legal convictions. The attacker was shot several times by police and is in serious condition. Police have assured that there is no longer any danger to the public, but transportation around the square remains blocked.
