In 2024, the theme for National HIV Testing Day is “Level Up Your Self-Love: Check Your Status.” The Cabell-Huntington Health Department will be offering free HIV testing on Thursday, June 27th from 8:30 AM to 3:00 PM at their location on 703 Seventh Avenue in Huntington, WV.
HIV testing is a crucial tool in engaging individuals in care to maintain their health, regardless of the test results. Those who test negative can access HIV prevention tools such as pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP), condoms, and other sexual health services. People who test positive can promptly begin HIV treatment to stay healthy. The National HIV/AIDS Strategy and the Ending the HIV Epidemic in the U.S. Initiative guide efforts to reach all individuals who can benefit from HIV prevention and care.
Michelle Perdue, Harm Reduction Coordinator at the Cabell-Huntington Health Department, emphasizes that HIV testing is a critical tool to help end the HIV epidemic in the United States. Advances in HIV medication have made it possible to link individuals living with HIV to care quickly. Daily medication can lead to being undetectable and untransmittable, changing HIV from a death sentence to a manageable condition.
In addition to in-person testing services at the health department, there are also self-testing options available such as Together Take Me Home which provides free testing for those who may not have easy access to these services. For those who prefer self-testing at home, a link will be provided for this purpose. If you have any questions or need more information about this event or self-testing options, contact Michelle Perdue at (304) 523-6483 or visit www.cabellhuntingtonhealthdepartment.com/nationalhivtestingday for more information about this event and how you can get tested for HIV today!
