In 2023, Argentina received a significant amount of foreign direct investment (FDI) from various sources. The Central Bank’s report revealed that Brazil and Spain were the largest sources of investment in the country, with a total of US$6.7 billion injected into the economy. This was followed by Switzerland, the Netherlands, China, Uruguay, and Germany.
The total FDI inflows for the year reached US$22,352 million, which represented a significant increase from the previous year. This increase was attributed to debt transactions, reinvestment of profits, and capital contributions. Debt transactions were the main transactional flow of FDI in 2023, with Brazil and Switzerland standing out in magnitude.
In the fourth quarter of 2023, there were net FDI inflows of US$6,557 million, with debt transactions and reinvestment of profits being the primary sources. The reinvestment of profits was encouraged by certain economic conditions such as exchange rate appreciation, leading companies to invest in bonds and other financial instruments.
