As the cybersecurity of the healthcare industry, Texas State Technical College’s Health Information Technology program ensures patient information remains accessible while maintaining privacy and security. Operating behind the scenes, this program is offered entirely online and includes an Associate of Applied Science degree and two certificates of completion.
Sarah Brooks, TSTC’s interim director of alignment for Health Information Technology, explains that the program covers business, information technology, and health science aspects of health information. With technological advancements and longer life expectancy driving demand for professionals in this field, Brooks emphasizes its growing importance.
One student, Liza Perea from El Paso, chose to enhance her career opportunities by joining TSTC’s Health Information Technology program after working as a coder in home health care for 20 years. She found the online format convenient for her schedule and is proud to be part of the program. Perea looks forward to graduating in fall 2024.
