Spring Sports Standout: Melyssa McJennett Takes Top Honors in Jackson Area

The Dome Classic Track Invitational was held on May 10, 2024 at East Jackson High School in Jackson. This event featured the women’s 1600 meter race, where Columbia Central’s Melyssa McJennett stood out as the top spring sports junior in the area. McJennett displayed her skills in sprints, hurdles, and long jump throughout the season, earning multiple first-place finishes in various events.

Her impressive performance qualified her to compete in the Division 3 state meet in the 100 hurdles, with a qualifying time of 17.03 at the regional meet in Hillsdale. In recognition of her talent and dedication to athletics, McJennett received 53.51% of the vote and was awarded the title of top spring sports junior.

Following closely behind were two other talented athletes: Leslie soccer player Lily Smieska in second place and Addison sprinter and hurdler Molly Brown in third place. This recognition highlights McJennett’s exceptional skills and commitment to her athletic pursuits.
