Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico has released a video on his Facebook account, providing an update on his condition following the May 15 attack in Handlová. Fico, who was shot by an activist from the opposition, expresses gratitude to the doctors who treated him and is optimistic about his recovery. He hopes to return to work by the end of June or early July if all goes well.
In the video, Fico discusses the incident and offers forgiveness to the shooter, calling him a “messenger of evil and political hatred.” He attributes the attack to the aggressive incitement by the opposition against him and criticizes media outlets he believes are influenced by Hungarian billionaire George Soros. Fico also takes aim at Western governments and European Union for trying to impose their beliefs on other countries.
Fico emphasizes that he has promised not to send any more ammunition to Ukraine, which he views as being prolonged by opposition forces and Western powers. He accuses China and Russia of being unfairly targeted as “arch enemies” by these groups.
Fico believes that he has been demonized in media coverage and by opposition politicians due to his differing views, which he feels ultimately led to the attempt on his life. He urges those opposing him to cease their campaign against him in order to prevent further incidents from occurring.
