Shopping with Security: How Wilmorite’s New Technology is Fighting Shoplifting at The Mall at Greece Ridge

The Mall at Greece Ridge in Greece, N.Y. is implementing updated technology to combat shoplifting, thanks to Wilmorite’s latest security measures. Al D’Agostino, vice president and corporate security director with Wilmorite, explained that the information about known shoplifters is provided either by the police or based on personal experiences of theft incidents at the mall.

The new technology works by installing cameras that read license plates and search for vehicles associated with previous shoplifting incidents. When a known shoplifter tries to return to the mall, an alert is generated on screens at the mall security office and police station. This often deters shoplifters from attempting to steal as they know they are being monitored once they enter the property.

If a license plate hits for any reason other than shoplifting, the mall receives a call from the police informing them of the situation. The technology also enables the mall security team to guide police officers towards the vehicle and provide them with footage or images of any individuals involved in the shoplifting incident.

Eastview Mall in Victor has been using similar technology for several years now and has seen a significant increase in shoplifting arrests as a result. D’Agostino stated that this technology helps capture footage and images that can be handed over to law enforcement agencies for effective problem-solving.

In addition to this technology, there is a police officer assigned to The Mall at Greece Ridge and two Ontario County sheriff’s deputies assigned to Eastview Mall. This ensures that when a problem arises, both security personnel and police officers can respond quickly and effectively. The proactive approach to combating shoplifting through updated technology and police presence is helping create a safer shopping environment at these malls.

Overall, Wilmorite’s implementation of updated technology combined with increased police presence has proven successful in reducing instances of shoplifting at malls across New York state.
