Shocking Resignation: Appalachian State University Chancellor Sheri Everts Steps Down for Personal Health Reasons, Outlines Her Legacy of Success

Sheri Everts, the chancellor of Appalachian State University, announced her resignation in a letter sent on Monday morning. She will step down later this week, on April 19th. Everts cited significant health challenges as the reason for her decision to focus on her personal health and wellbeing.

During her tenure at App State, Everts oversaw significant growth and development at the university. Enrollment increased to more than 20,000 students between 2014-20 and continues to rise. Everts expressed pride in the students, past and present, who have made a positive impact in communities around the world.

Everts previously served as the provost and vice president for academic affairs at Illinois State University. Under her leadership, several major projects were completed, including the Levine Hall of Health Sciences, a new facility at Kidd Brewer Stadium, a residence hall project, building renovations, and the opening of the App State Hickory Campus.

UNC System President Peter Hans will announce an interim chancellor by April 19th. The former chancellor of Appalachian State University passed away recently but his legacy continues to live on through his contributions to the university’s growth and success during his time in office.
