SERT Robotics Team Takes First Place in Pacific Northwest, Earns Spot at World Championships

The South Eugene Robotics team, also known as SERT, has achieved a remarkable feat by ranking No. 1 in the Pacific Northwest region for the first time ever. This achievement has earned them a spot at the World Championships, which will be held in Houston, Texas. Professor Paul Dassonville serves as a mentor for SERT and expressed his excitement about their success. According to Dassonville, this ranking is significant for the team and represents years of hard work and dedication.

At the recent Northwest District competition, SERT performed exceptionally well by winning two events, a first in their team’s history. Dassonville noted that the team’s progression over the years can be attributed to older students passing on their knowledge and skills to newer members, leading to continuous improvement. This approach has helped SERT build robots that can compete in races and demonstrate various skills.

SERT is now preparing for the 4-day World competition that kicks off on April 17th. They will be competing against 600 other robotics teams from across the globe. When not participating in competitions, SERT engages in community outreach and service initiatives to give back to their local community. To support their journey to the World competition, they are actively raising funds to cover travel expenses. Those interested in donating or providing support can visit the SERT website at sert2521.org, where they can learn more about available options such as a Go Fund Me page.
