The Chinese Academy of Social Sciences’ Institute of Law has recently published a report that highlights the significant impact of technology on the construction and operation of courts in China. Through various technological advancements, individuals and departments now have better access to legal services and resources.
The report specifically focuses on the Informatization Development of Chinese courts, emphasizing the role of information and digital technologies such as artificial intelligence, 5G, big data, and blockchain in improving judicial processes. These advancements have not only helped uphold justice but also increased judicial efficiency and supported China’s path to modernization.
One example provided in the report is the Jiangsu High People’s Court, which has implemented an online system for judicial auctions and established a platform for sharing resources and case information among courts in the Yangtze River Delta. Additionally, courts across the country have introduced online legal services for case filing, pretrial mediation, and online payments to help litigants and lawyers save time and costs.
By the end of last year, over 100,000 institutes and 410,000 mediators had joined an online platform established by the Supreme People’s Court, aiding in the successful resolution of 12.04 million civil and administrative disputes through mediation. Moreover, more than 77 percent of practicing lawyers nationwide have registered on another online platform for managing case-related affairs and interacting with judges.
