Record-breaking Year for ACC: $706.6 Million in Revenue and 9% Increase in Television Media

The ACC experienced a record-breaking year in 2022-23, generating $706.6 million in gross revenue and distributing an average of $44.8 million to its 14 football-playing members. This represented a 14.5% increase over the previous year, marking the second-largest year-over-year increase in league history. However, the ACC still lags behind the Big Ten and SEC in terms of revenue, with new television deals expected to widen the gap even further in the future.

The ACC saw a 9% increase in television media revenue, with an average distribution per school up by 13.7% and an 88.2% increase since 2015-16. Notre Dame, a member in all sports except football, received $22.1 million in revenue. Despite trailing the Big Ten and SEC in revenue, the ACC had a successful year in 2022-23, winning nine national titles and sending teams to the Final Four in both men’s and women’s basketball.

Florida State and Clemson have filed lawsuits against the ACC as they plan for their long-term futures in light of the revenue discrepancies. Commissioner Jim Phillips earned $2.76 million for the fiscal year, while former commissioner John Swofford was the second-highest paid at $2.59 million.
