According to a recent study by the Confcommercio Tourism Observatory in collaboration with Swg, 29 million Italians are expected to travel between June and September of 2024. With an average per capita budget of 1,190 euros, this is projected to be a “record” summer for Italian tourism.
The study was based on a survey of 1,045 Italians aged between 18 and 80, representative of the population by gender, age, geographical area, and size of the municipality of residence. The results showed that Italians will spend an average of 750 euros per capita in July, 910 euros in August, and 760 euros in September. This represents a significant increase from the previous year’s budgets of 630 euros in June.
More than four out of ten Italians will opt for hotels or holiday villages for their accommodations during their trips. However, some will choose second homes owned by friends or relatives (14%), while others prefer B&Bs and short-term rentals (depending on the duration of their trip).
In terms of destinations, Trentino Alto Adige remains a popular choice for both short and medium-term trips. This is followed closely by Tuscany, Sardinia, and Puglia for longer vacations.
