Génesis Cabrera, a player of the Tampa Bay Rays, is likely to face action from MLB after a bench-clearing incident with the Toronto Blue Jays. The altercation began during the seventh inning when Rays infielder José Caballero laid down a bunt, resulting in a fielding error by Blue Jays third baseman Justin Turner.
Caballero was thrown out at third base, but not before he confronted Cabrera about the error. The two exchanged some heated words before Cabrera pushed Caballero, leading to both benches clearing. Cabrera was ejected from the game after just one inning of work, and it is expected that he will face discipline from MLB as a result of his actions.
This incident follows another similar confrontation between the Milwaukee Brewers and New York Mets the day before. Despite losing 5-1 and having their record drop to 2-1, the Rays will hope for a better day on Sunday following the altercation. It remains uncertain what consequences Cabrera will face as a result of his actions during the bench-clearing incident.
