Raising Hope: UVA Health Children’s Week of Giving Exceeds $110,000 in Total, Highlights Cares for Kids Radiothon

2 min read

The 2024 UVA Health Children’s “Week of Giving” was a huge success, raising $110,734 in total. One of the highlights of the week was the Cares for Kids Radiothon, which aired for two days on five local radio stations owned by the Charlottesville Radio Group. The event featured inspiring stories from families of UVA patients, child life specialists, and hospital leaders.

The radiothon was staffed by local volunteers and included a live phone bank to accept donations. This year marked the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic that the radiothon included a live phone bank. The funds raised by the radiothon will support various initiatives at UVA Health Children, such as expanding the neonatal intensive care unit and pediatric intensive care unit. Additionally, the money will go towards UVA’s family-centered care program, which assists families with unexpected expenses during their child’s hospital stay.

Erin Chandler, UVA Health’s associate director of development for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals and corporate philanthropy, emphasized the importance of giving back to children’s health care during this unique time in history. She stated that this year’s Week of Giving presented an opportunity for families, friends, and communities to come together and make a collective impact for the youngest patients at UVA Health.
