In 1990, Nintendo hosted an esports competition known as the Nintendo World Championships that traveled across 29 American cities. Gamers from all around the country gathered to compete using a custom Nintendo Entertainment System Game Pak. The cartridge used in the event has since become a highly sought-after collector’s item.
Recently, Nintendo released a trailer for the upcoming game, Nintendo World Championships: NES Edition. This game aims to recreate the competitive spirit of the event and features more than 150 challenging moments from 13 classic NES games like Super Mario Bros. and Metroid. Along with the virtual eShop download, Nintendo also announced that a physical edition of the game would be available.
The Deluxe Set, which will be available on July 18 for $59.99, includes a Gold replica NES cartridge and stand to commemorate the 1990 World Championships, a Nintendo Switch game card, 13 art cards, and a set of five pins. While the cartridge is not playable, it features embossed pixel art of the classic Nintendo games from the event. If you want to purchase this unique physical edition, be sure to visit Nintendo’s website on July 18. The digital game-only version costs $29.99. With such an impressive design and high demand for collectors’ items, fans are already concerned about scalpers trying to buy up all available copies of this set.
