Race to Host the NFL Draft: Pittsburgh, Green Bay and Washington DC Compete for 2027 Event

2 min read

The NFL has announced that the 2026 NFL draft will be held in Pittsburgh, with Green Bay hosting next year’s event. Since the draft went on the road in 2015, several cities including Dallas, Chicago, Nashville, Philadelphia, Cleveland, Las Vegas and Detroit have had the opportunity to host the draft. For many years, the NFL draft was held in New York City at Radio City Music Hall. With the next two host cities already determined, attention is turning to the 2027 NFL draft and potential host city.

According to a report by Nicki Jhabvala and Mark Maske of The Washington Post, Washington D.C. is making a push to host the 2027 NFL draft. Representatives from D.C and officials from Washington Commanders are confident that they can secure the event in 2027. However, they face stiff competition from other NFL cities also vying for this prestigious event.

Despite their enthusiasm for hosting the draft, league sources have cautioned that competition is fierce as many cities with NFL teams are eager to host this economically beneficial event. The Commanders were among twelve teams present in Detroit during the 2024 NFL draft to conduct site surveys indicating their strong interest in hosting it themselves.

Hosting an NFL draft has proven to be economically beneficial for previous host cities making it an enticing opportunity for Washington Dc and Commanders. While no decision has been made yet on who will host the 2027 NFL draft; Washington Dc remains a strong contender in this race against other big city competitors like Las Vegas or Philadelphia
