Russian President Vladimir Putin issued a stern warning on Tuesday regarding the potential consequences of Western countries allowing Ukraine to use their weapons against Russian territory. The issue is currently being discussed among countries allied with Ukraine.
During a visit to Uzbekistan, Putin stated that NATO representatives should understand the risks of escalating tensions, especially in small countries with high population density. He warned that any strikes on Russian territory could lead to serious consequences. The head of the Border Guard Department of the Russian Federal Security Service accused NATO of intensifying military maneuvers near Russian borders, while European Union Foreign Minister Josep Borrell echoed concerns about the use of Western weapons in Ukraine against Russia.
French President Macron emphasized the need to neutralize Russian military bases launching missiles into Ukraine and prevent attacks on civilian targets in Russia. Several countries, including Belgium and Poland, expressed support for Ukraine by pledging military assistance. Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Zelensky called on US President Biden to participate in a peace summit on Ukraine in Switzerland. The summit has received confirmation of participation from around 90 countries and is scheduled for June 15-16, but Washington has not yet confirmed its attendance.
The situation remains tense as the international community grapples with efforts to de-escalate the conflict between Russia and Ukraine.
