The Dexter High School is set to launch a new Music Technology course that aligns with its strategic plan of preparing students for the 21st century by incorporating technology into education. This innovative course aims to foster creativity, critical thinking, and technological competency in students, equipping them with skills applicable to modern industries.
During the school board meeting held on April 29, Grace Wolfe, the Director of Bands at DHS, presented a proposal for the new course. The proposal was approved during the meeting, and Wolfe highlighted the importance of offering this course at DHS. She emphasized that it would provide students with skills relevant to contemporary music production and technology-driven music industries.
The Music Technology course will allow students to explore their creativity using digital tools and gain a deeper understanding of music beyond traditional methods. Students will have access to various software, technologies, musical devices, and live sampling in a hands-on setting. The course is designed for students with diverse musical backgrounds, experience levels, and interests, creating an environment where they can collaborate and inspire one another.
Martha Greaterox, the President of the Dexter Community Schools Board of Education, expressed excitement about the new course. According to her, it will provide an excellent opportunity for music program students as well as those who want to be involved with the program but may not play a musical instrument. The Music Technology course is expected to cover core concepts such as digital audio production, sound design, music software proficiency, electronic composition, MIDI sequencing, and an understanding of emerging technologies in the music industry.
Grace Wolfe stressed that creativity plays a crucial role in contemporary music production; therefore, she emphasized that she would be teaching practical skills relevant to modern industries while also fostering critical thinking skills in her students. She added that she believes that this course will provide an exciting opportunity for students who are passionate about music and want to learn more about it through technology.
In conclusion, Dexter High School’s introduction of a new Music Technology course is a positive step towards preparing its students for success in modern industries by incorporating technology into education. This innovative course will foster creativity
