In a thrilling game against in-state rival Southern Miss, Angelina DeLeon and Lexie Brady hit home runs to lead the Ole Miss softball team to a 7-3 victory. Brady hit her team-leading 13th home run of the year, while DeLeon also contributed with her second longball of the season. Grace Sparks pitched well out of the bullpen, striking out five over 3.2 innings to secure the win for the Rebels.
Southern Miss got on the board first with a run in the opening inning, but Ole Miss responded with three runs in the bottom half. Jalia Lassiter and Jaden Pone set the table for the Rebels, who took the lead with a sacrifice fly and Brady’s home run. Despite Southern Miss tying the game in the second inning, Sparks settled in and retired the next 10 of 12 batters she faced.
The Rebels were down by one heading into the fourth inning, but they sparked a rally with a two-run single from Lassiter before DeLeon hit a two-run home run to take back their lead. The bottom of the order continued their hot streak as Starr got on base before Lassiter delivered another two-run single to put Ole Miss ahead again.
In an incredible display of power, DeLeon hit another home run in the sixth inning to secure victory for Ole Miss and cement their spot as winners of this heated rivalry game.
The Rebels will be back on April 26-28 as they host Auburn for Senior Weekend. For more news and information on Ole Miss softball, fans can visit OleMissSports.com and follow them on social media.
