In a dramatic turn of events, the doctor who provided first aid to an injured protester on Kaplan Street was arrested and held in custody. Despite wearing a luminous doctor’s vest recognized by the Israel Police, Dr. Udi Beharev was brutally treated during his arrest. He was interrogated and accused of various claims based on filmed footage, but no action has been taken against the policemen who used violence against him.
In response to this incident, Prof. Hagai Zion, Chairman of the Medical Association, sent a letter to the Minister of Health threatening a doctors’ strike if action is not taken against the police officers responsible for Dr. Beharev’s arrest. The Minister of Health, Uriel Bosso, also expressed concern over the incident and called for an investigation to ensure it does not happen again.
Dr. Beharev reassured his colleagues that despite his arrest, he remains committed to providing care and urged them not to be afraid to continue their work. Protests from various organizations and individuals have condemned the violent arrest and called for justice to be served for Dr. Beharev and other medical professionals who may face similar situations in the future.
