Phillies Super-Utility Edmundo Sosa Returns to Utility Role, Team Looks to Boost Outfield Production

1 min read

Edmundo Sosa, who stepped up in Trea Turner’s absence, is set to transition back into a super-utility role for the Phillies. However, Sosa will also work on improving his skills in the outfield during pregame sessions to give the team another option in left or center field.

Turner, who has been sidelined with a hamstring strain for six weeks, has returned to the active roster and will resume his role as the team’s starting shortstop and No. 2 hitter behind Kyle Schwarber. To make room for Turner on the active roster, Johan Rojas was sent to Triple A. Rojas will have an opportunity to play every day and improve his offensive performance.

With Rojas now in Triple A, the Phillies are likely to use a platoon of Brandon Marsh and Cristian Pache in center field, with Whit Merrifield and David Dahl in left field. The team is looking for increased production from their outfield options as they continue their six-game homestand.
