Phillies fan and World War II veteran Paul Trumbetas turned 100 years old in style, with a special celebration at the Southeastern Veterans’ Center in Spring City, Chester County. The event, organized as part of the Phillies Salute to Service program, was a result of a request made by Trumbetas’ daughter, Denise Selzer.
Trumbetas, who is also a fan of the Eagles, 76ers, and Flyers, was overwhelmed by the surprise party thrown in his honor. Along with his wife Barbara and youngest daughter Fran Griffith, he enjoyed the festivities that included an honor guard, cake, and even an ice cream truck.
The celebration culminated with Phillies legend Mickey Morandini presenting Trumbetas with the ball he will throw for the first pitch at a Phillies game. As he looked back on the incredible turnout and support from the community, Trumbetas expressed his happiness and gratitude for the unexpected celebration.
Reflecting on the once-in-a-lifetime event that made his 100th birthday one to remember, Trumbetas shared a simple message for the Phillies on game day – “Keep hitting.” As he celebrated with his family and friends at the Southeastern Veterans’ Center in Spring City, Trumbetas knew that this special occasion would be etched in his memory forever.
