Pharoh Cooper, a former NFL wide receiver and kick returner, has announced his retirement from the league after seven seasons of play. In a social media post, Cooper expressed his gratitude to God for allowing him to live out his childhood dream of playing in the NFL. He also thanked his family, friends, and fans for their love and support throughout his career.
Drafted by the Rams in the fourth round in 2016 out of South Carolina, Cooper quickly became a standout returner for the team in his second season. He was named a first-team All-Pro return man and led the NFL in kickoff return average with 27.4 yards. However, a season-ending ankle injury in 2018 led to his release from the Rams, and he struggled to regain his earlier form with subsequent teams.
Throughout his career, Cooper had stints with the Rams, Cardinals, Bengals, Panthers, Jaguars, and Giants. Despite his talent as a returner, he made the decision to retire at the age of 29, foregoing the opportunity to potentially earn a spot in an NFL training camp this year.
