Garner Industries, a company located near Waverly, recently announced layoffs for several employees following the destruction of its facility by a tornado. The company’s CEO and president, Scott McLain, shared in a press release that 62 employees were affected by the layoffs. The tornado, classified as an EF-3, demolished the company’s 115,000-square-foot building and resulted in injuries to three individuals.
Despite the challenges presented by the natural disaster, McLain expressed the company’s commitment to finding a way forward. He acknowledged the difficulty of the situation, emphasizing the close-knit relationships between the employees and their employer. Affected employees will receive compensation and health benefits during this transitional period. Garner Industries has set up various forms of support for their employees, including community assistance, medical and mental health resources, as well as opportunities for new employment. In an effort to continue operations, the company is in the process of relocating Garner’s BinMaster product line to an alternate location in Lincoln.
