OSHA Investigation Finds Dangerous Workplace Conditions at Cavco Industries Inc.

In October 2023, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) conducted an investigation into Cavco Industries Inc. and found serious and other-than-serious violations at their facilities across four states. The investigation was part of OSHA’s National Emphasis Program Site-Specific Targeting, which focuses on high injury rate establishments.

The findings revealed that Cavco Industries Inc. had violated a total of 38 safety and health standards, with 25 serious violations and two other-than-serious violations resulting in penalties of $272,479. The violations included issues such as lack of fall protection, improper use of ladders, failure to maintain safe walking surfaces, overlooked overhead hazards, and more. Additionally, inspectors identified over a dozen health hazards, including the absence of respiratory and hazard communication programs, inadequate provision of personal protective equipment (PPE), and failure to assess silica exposure.

Cavco Industries Inc., based in Phoenix, has been given 15 business days to comply with OSHA’s findings or request an informal conference or contest the findings before an independent commission. OSHA Area Director Monica Camacho expressed concern over the company’s history of violations that indicate a failure to provide a safe and healthful work environment for its employees.

The seriousness of these violations highlights the potential risks to workers at Cavco Industries Inc., making it crucial for them to address these issues promptly to ensure the safety and health of their employees.
