The historic city center of Olten, Switzerland, was the setting for Sunday’s individual World Cup sprint event. As the enthusiastic spectators cheered in the arena, a picturesque backdrop was created for an exciting competition. In the women’s class, Switzerland’s Natalia Gemperle claimed her first World Cup win in six years with a comfortable 12-second lead over Simona Aebersold and Tove Alexandersson from Sweden. Meanwhile, in the men’s race, Emil Svensk from Sweden secured his victory by just one second over Tuomas Heikkilä from Finland.

In contrast to Saturday’s Knock-Out Sprint races, Sunday’s sprint courses began in eastern Olten and included sections in park areas before winding through the historic old town. The women’s course was 3.4 kilometers long and closely followed by Simona Aebersold and Tove Alexandersson from Sweden. However, Alexandersson made a mistake near the end of the race and dropped to seventh place while Aebersold finished just 12 seconds behind Gemperle. Czechia’s Tereza Janosikova claimed third place, her best World Cup result since 2019.

On the other hand, the men’s race was also an intense battle for victory between Emil Svensk and Tuomas Heikkilä from Finland. With only one second separating them at the finish line, Svensk emerged victorious over Heikkilä. Martin Regborn from Sweden finished third just four seconds behind Svensk. Jonatan Gustafsson and Yannick Michiels led early in the race but ultimately finished in fourth and fifth place respectively. Gustav Runefors from Sweden shared sixth place with Eirik Langedal Breivik from Norway following their impressive performance on Sunday.

After completing their races in Olten, athletes will quickly prepare for Round 2 of Orienteering World Cup held in Genoa, Italy this weekend with both sprint and sprint relay scheduled on IOF LIVE and IOF TV with English French German commentary available for viewers to enjoy
