The Ohio Senate has recently passed legislation, Senate Bill 63, which aims to safeguard small businesses and other companies from being involved in asbestos lawsuits where they bear no responsibility. Chris Ferruso, State Director of NFIB, underscored the significance of this pro-business legislation in a recent statement.
Ferruso explained that small businesses often lack the financial resources and legal support to defend themselves against unfounded legal claims. The burden of defending against even one baseless lawsuit can be enough to force a small business to shut down, regardless of the outcome in court. SB63 is viewed as a positive step towards protecting small businesses from unnecessary legal battles.
NFIB and its members are grateful for the Ohio Senate’s actions and hope that the House will also approve the bill. They are optimistic that Governor DeWine will sign SB63 into law, providing much-needed protection for small businesses in the state. By passing this legislation, Ohio is taking a crucial step towards ensuring that small businesses can focus on growing their operations without worrying about frivolous lawsuits.
