A notorious criminal, Mohamed Amra, was released from prison after a daring ambush by a group of gunmen who targeted his prison transport vehicle. The incident occurred on May 14 when a police car carrying Amra, 30 years old, was attacked at the Incarville toll station in the Eure region. Two prison guards were killed and three people were injured in the raid.
Amra is considered a prominent figure in the gang world and goes by the nickname “La Mouche” (the fly). Born in Rouen in 1994, he has been involved in crime since childhood. He has been detained for over a year to serve several sentences including criminal conspiracy, extortion, robbery, armed violence and illegal motor racing.
Despite not being classified as a high-risk prisoner, authorities assigned multiple prison guards to supervise him every time he was moved due to his violent past. However, Amra’s lawyer expressed surprise at the violent raid that freed him and suggested that he may have been kidnapped as revenge by gunmen.
French authorities are determined to return Amra to prison and arrest those responsible for his escape. Interpol has issued a red arrest warrant for Amra highlighting the challenges facing law enforcement in combating organized crime. Despite his criminal background, police question his involvement in orchestrating such a daring attack given that military-grade weapons were used during the ambush.
