The newly constructed science building at Kilgore College has been named the Torrence Health Science Education Center, in recognition of a significant donation from the Torrence family. Located at 1610 S. Henderson Blvd. in Kilgore, the building is situated next to the CHRISTUS Good Shepherd Health Center.
Last Tuesday, community leaders and students gathered for an unveiling ceremony to announce the name change, with Billy Torrence expressing his gratitude and humility. “It’s an honor to be able to give back in the name of our family,” he said. “We’re just thrilled to be here and provide these new students with a head start on their careers.”
The president of Kilgore College, Brenda Kay, thanked the Torrence family for their generosity and expressed her gratitude. “Their support will have a lasting impact on our college and our community,” she said.
The Torrence Health Science Education Center will open its doors for fall classes, offering training programs for nurses, physical therapy assistants, and medical imaging. The building features new classrooms and state-of-the-art lab facilities, making it unique among community colleges given its proximity to a working hospital and emergency room. With this addition, Kilgore College continues to provide opportunities for students to pursue careers in healthcare while staying rooted in their community.
