New Hepatitis C Treatment Program Launched in Mid-Michigan: Providing Comprehensive Care and Support to Effectively Manage Condition

In the mid-Michigan area, a new hepatitis C treatment program has been introduced by the Central Michigan District Health Department. This comprehensive care program offers medication, monitoring, and support services to individuals with hepatitis C to effectively manage their condition. Connie Lance, community health supervisor at CMDHD, highlights the importance of this program in addressing the increasing burden of hepatitis C in Michigan.

Hepatitis C is a liver infection caused by the hepatitis C virus (HCV) that can result in serious health complications if left untreated, such as liver damage, cirrhosis, and liver cancer. Lance stresses that hepatitis C is curable and early detection and treatment can prevent these complications. Healthcare providers can refer patients for treatment through forms available on the CMDHD website, while individuals can also self-refer for treatment without a healthcare provider’s referral.

For those without insurance, CMDHD has resources to assist with the cost of treatment. The program bills insurance for services and offers testing for hepatitis C for those who are unsure of their status. To schedule a testing appointment, individuals can contact the CMDHD Community Health division at 989-314-7570. This new program aims to make it easier for individuals to access necessary care to manage their hepatitis C effectively and improve their overall health and well-being.
