The American Red Cross’ Blood Saves Lives Fighting Cancer initiative has received a $3,000 grant from the Memorial Health Foundation. Sharon Kesselring, the executive director of the American Red Cross of the Ohio River Valley, expressed excitement for the partnership with the Health System.
The grant was awarded due to the important role that the American Red Cross plays in patient care within the Health System and in the region. The blood collected by the American Red Cross is processed and made available for patients fighting cancer when they need it. Blood transfusions can be crucial in the cancer treatment process, providing relief from symptoms of chemotherapy treatments.
Julie Dye and Jill Deming presented the grant on behalf of the foundation at Memorial Health System’s first blood drive of 2024. The next Memorial Health Foundation grant cycle opens on July 1. More information can be found online at mhsystem.org/Foundation.
